Marine Group Boat Works, LLC (MGBW) is one of the Pacific Coast's premier full-service shipyards with locations along the San Diego Bay and in San Jose del Cabo. MGBW specializes in refits, repairs and new construction of boats up to 220 feet (91 meters) long. MGBW also provides highly specialized services including new construction, custom metal fabrications and emergent work repairs for vessels ranging from range training support crafts, patrol boats, dive boats, workboats, tugboats and barges.
Our Challenges
- Environmental regulations: California has some of the most severe regulations when it comes to environmental protocols. Locations are adjacent to water that leads directly to the Pacific Ocean.
- Shipyard locations: Two locations directly on the San Diego Bay, posing an immediate risk when anything that touches the water. Residues, oils, fuels, etc must be contained properly to avoid fines.
- Hazardous materials: MGBW works with hazardous materials such as oil and paint on a daily basis, and therefore must take proper precautions when it comes to workplace safety.

Project Task
MGBW is constantly looking for new ways to help minimize the risk of spills and hazards in general. One of the immediate focal points was to protect the water in the event of a fuel/oil spill. They also needed a uniform drain protection solution for stormwater compliance and they turned to Spill Bully.
Additionally, MGBW had a goal of switching from traditional absorbents to an option with less dust and residue.
Our Solution
Spill Bully provided MGBW with boom to protect on-the-water spills.
They were also able to replace their traditional, “kitty litter” absorbent with Spill Bully Heavy, eliminating both dust and residue in their yard.
Spill Bully provided storm drain protection in a variety of custom sizes.
